Homes for Heroes Foundation has kicked off their 2022 grant giving with a $10,000 donation to the nonprofit Nurses House.
The original Nurses House was a home in Babylon, Long Island, New York, where nurses could come and stay to have a respite or recuperate with their peers. In the late 1950’s, the home was sold and the organization made the transition to help nurses in their own homes. Since then, Nurses House has helped nurses in their own homes across the country. They are able to offer financially housing help to nurses who are unable to work for a variety of reasons. They are even able to help with some medical expenses some nurses are experiencing.
At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in February 2020, Nurses House saw an increase in need. They partnered with the American Nurses Foundation to fundraise specifically for nurses who were affected by Covid-19. In 2020 alone, they were able to jointly provide almost $3 million in grants to nurses.
The Homes for Heroes Foundation grant will be used to provide housing and medical expense relief to nurses in need. The grants go directly to the nursing individuals. If you’re a nurse who needs help, you can fill out an application for assistance on their website. Grants are approved in 2-4 weeks generally.
“This grant will go a long way to help nurses in need right now. Nurses House is constantly accepting applications to our program to hep nurses in need throughout the United States. We assist nurses who are ill, injured, disabled, or otherwise unable to work, we assist with housing expenses. We help nurses pay their mortgage, their rent, or if they don’t have any payments for housing expense we do pay medical expenses as well.” says Stephanie Dague, Director of Development, Nurses House Inc.
The Homes for Heroes Foundation provides grants to heroes in dire need. By giving grants to established nonprofits, we can create a direct impact within hero communities across the country.
