Day nine of the Homes for Heroes Twelve Days of Christmas Miracles delivers a gift in New Carlisle, IN to the Schreiber family. Homes for Heroes real estate specialist, Jim McKinnies and his team, nominated the Schreibers to receive an unexpected $500 Christmas gift. The community came together to give a little back to both Laura and her husband, Ryan, to honor their dedicated service to the country and their community.
Laura Schreiber is a local second grade teacher at Olive Elementary in New Carlisle. Laura’s husband, Ryan, just got back from his second deployment overseas to Afghanistan, and was recently stationed at an Air Force base in Oklahoma for 8 months. Next year, Ryan will complete his 20th year of service.
Community Gathers to Give Back to Local Hero Family
Homes for Heroes real estate specialist, Jim McKinnies, and his team received a nomination for the Schreiber family from members of the New Carlisle community. The nomination was made primarily because the community wanted to come together and honor the service of Laura, as a wife, mother and teacher; as well as her husband, Ryan, who has been gone from home for some time serving our country in the military.
So, the community came together and decided they wanted to take care of most of the family’s Christmas shopping! They collaborated and organized the surprise presentation to take place Friday, December 14th with friends, family and co-workers.
Homes for Heroes Christmas Gift for New Carlisle Heroes
Homes for Heroes, community members and loved ones took over the Olive Elementary gymnasium in New Carlisle to set up the new couch and all of the gifts purchased for the Schreiber family. It’s like they transformed the gymnasium into Santa’s workshop. Not only did Laura’s fellow faculty members attend the presentation, but both of their parents and other family members were able to make it as well. After classes were let out for the day, Laura and Ryan were led to the gym where their surprise quietly awaited their arrival.
“This experience was an emotional one for all that were in the room. Everyone expressed how deserving Laura and Ryan were to receive the $500 Christmas gift and all the presents purchased with it. It made the surprise that much more meaningful because Laura and Ryan were able to be together today,” said Jim McKinnies.
These are the gifts purchased for Laura, Ryan and the kids:
- PJ Masks Dress Up Set
- Barbie Dreamtopia
- Crayola Ultimate Crayon Collection
- Princess Play Tent (Pop-Up Ball House) + Set of 50 balls
- Melissa & Doug Jumbo Coloring Book
- Crayola Travel Coloring Kit
- Barbie Convertible
- Baby Teething Extraordinaire
- Little Tikes Princess Coupe Ride-On
- Sephora Favorites-Holiday Perfume Sampler
- Coloring Books
In addition, an agent from the McKinnies team had her family help donate a brand new couch, photography session for the family, and a gas card.
Laura Schreiber told WNDU TV, “I’m speechless. I can’t believe they nominated us. I can’t believe we were picked.”
Thank you to all who made this Christmas gift possible. Laura and Ryan, we all thank you for your service. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you from all of us at Homes for Heroes.
