Homes for Heroes dedicates twelve days each holiday season to their Twelve Days of Christmas Miracles. With the assistance of their affiliate real estate and mortgage specialists, Homes for Heroes presents twelve special Christmas gifts to twelve American hero families leading up to Christmas. This year real estate specialist, Rachel Mateo, was selected to present a $500 gift to the McKay family.
Jeremy McKay has been fighting fires for 12 years as a Clay County firefighter. He and his wife Tanya have three children together.
Stage 4 Cancer Diagnosis
Recently, the Mckay family began fighting cancer. This past September, Jeremy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma in his stomach. Jeremy had over 50 masses in his stomach, over 20 in his lungs, and his entire lymphatic system had been taken over. The family was told Jeremy’s cancer is not beatable and he’s been given 1-2 years to live.
Tanya has been taking off work to be with her husband, to care for him and bring him to all of his doctor appointments and treatments. It’s difficult but important time together.
$500 Gift for McKay Family
Homes for Heroes and their real estate specialist, Rachel Mateo, presented the McKay family with a $500 gift. At the time of writing this story, it wasn’t clear how the family would use the $500 gift.
“I would love for the family to maybe take another family vacation together,” said Rachel Mateo. Quality time away with the family sounds like a great Christmas gift.
Jeremy, we thank you for your service. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you, Tonya and the kids from all of us at Homes for Heroes.
Jeremy’s wife, Tonya was featured in a special News4JAX report, titled “Sounding the Alarm.” It shares how specialized hoods can give firefighters added protection against cancer-causing carcinogens.
