Community Honors Firefighter Displaced by Hurricane Harvey

Day 10 of Homes for Heroes 12 Days of Christmas Miracles honors a displaced Victoria, TX firefighter and his wife.

Frank is a local hero who has served the Victoria, TX community as a firefighter for the past 13 years. He currently serves as the Victoria Fire Department’s Fire Inspector/Investigator. Local Homes for Heroes Specialists, Tanya Cox and Joyce Mitchum befriended Frank and his fellow firefighters during their trips to the fire station. Local Homes for Heroes Specialists often bring Frank and his fellow firefighters home cooked meals to show their appreciation for their service. “Frank is always cheerful and we all have many laughs because of him!“ ~Homes for Heroes Specialists, Tanya Cox

While getting to know Frank, Tanya and Joyce found out that his wife is currently fighting cancer. As a result, the couple takes several trips to MD Anderson for treatment. To make matters more difficult for Frank and his wife, they are currently living in temporary quarters after Hurricane Harvey severely damaged their home. Despite being displaced from their home and fighting cancer, this couple has remained positive and continued to serve others while they rebuild their lives. Tanya added, “Through all this Frank has still kept his cheerful personality. Not only is he a Hero to our community, he is also a Hero to his family!”

Homes for Heroes Specialists, Tanya and Joyce, wanted to honor Frank and his wife for their service and positive spirits during their difficult time.

“We both felt that even though Frank has two major hurdles in his life right now he is still making sure his family and his community is safe and cared for. Frank is the true meaning of being a Hero!”
