It has never been more important to recognize the everyday trials the pandemic has created for our brave community heroes and find ways to give back to them. They have remained dedicated to serving our country and its diverse communities throughout this crisis.
Today, given the competitive housing market, it is all the more essential to provide our heroes with the tools they need to live in communities they serve,
The Homes for Heroes mission is this: Help connect first responders (firefighters, EMS and law enforcement), healthcare workers, teachers, and military members (active, reserves and veterans) with real estate and mortgage professionals who assist heroes in achieving the dream of homeownership. And, to provide extraordinary savings to heroes as a way to say thank you for your service and sacrifice in local communities.
We are proud to say Homes for Heroes has helped over 50,000 heroes achieve the dream of homeownership and leading that effort is Ruth Johnson, founder and CEO of Homes for Heroes.
Ruth’s lifelong passion for helping community heroes has been recognized by Down Payment Resource (DPR), the nationwide database for U.S. homebuyer assistance programs. DPR selected Ruth to win its fourth annual 2021 Beverly Faull Affordable Housing Leadership Award in February 2022.
Each year, the Beverly Faull Affordable Housing Leadership Award recognizes an individual or organization with outstanding leadership in broadening access to homeownership and affordable housing finance solutions. As part of the award, DPR makes a financial donation to the recipient’s housing nonprofit of choice. Ruth has requested the donation be made to the Homes for Heroes Foundation, 501(c)3 nonprofit that aids heroes that are suffering from housing insecurity with housing assistance and home modification services. The foundation recently celebrated raising $1 million to support heroes in need.
The Beverly Faull Affordable Housing Leadership Award is named in memory of Beverly Faull, a highly regarded housing industry veteran and one of DPR’s first employees who fully embraced the company’s mission to provide greater visibility and access to down payment assistance programs.
“I am incredibly honored to be named a Beverly Faull Affordable Housing Leadership Award recipient,” said Johnson. “In the age of Covid, it is more important than ever to give back to the brave heroes that have remained dedicated to serving our country and its diverse communities throughout this crisis. Helping heroes has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I look forward to continuing this mission with Homes for Heroes for years to come.”
Previous winners of this award include The National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB), the oldest professional organization for Black and minority real estate professionals, Tonya Todd, Housing Director for Hilltop Securities, Inc. and John O’Callaghan, President and CEO of the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc.
Connecting heroes to the right real estate professionals is only part of the mission we aim to fulfill at Homes for Heroes; we have helped over 50,000 heroes save over $95 million on their home transactions. We do this by giving back Hero Rewards savings after you close on a home. The average amount saved is $2,400 when you buy or sell a home using Homes for Heroes real estate and mortgage specialists.
When you use one of our affiliate real estate specialists to buy and/or sell your home, you’ll get $700 back for every $100,000 of the purchase price sent to you after closing as a check. For example, if you buy a home for $300,000, you’d get $2,100 back after your closing. This money can be used for anything, like new furniture for your new home, make repairs, or put in savings. It’s YOUR Hero Rewards savings! It’s our way to say thank you for your service and sacrifice in support of our country and its communities.
