We expected more information/involvement from the Homes for Heroes program. We received nothing further via email or mail after we were assigned an agent. We heard nothing from/about the program during the buying process. My husband and I had to initiate the heroes reward process AFTER closing. Our agent didn’t mention the reward to us, nor did the lender.
The agent that was assigned to us was very nice; however she was not familiar with the location in which we wanted to purchase a home. She would send us listings outside of the locations/price/sq.ft range that we wanted. It was at this point that my husband and I should have requested a different agent.
Due to the fact that a portion of the commission goes to the client, we believe this aspect of the process is the reason our assigned agent did not work as hard as she would have, had she received all of her commission. There were aspects of the buying process that made us feel as though our agent was a novice realtor. She overlooked important details and needed reminders to communicate information to the sellers agent that should have been standard practice. By the time we wanted to work with another agent, we were under contract with a seller. During our inspection, she spent more time chatting than helping us find potential pit-falls; which is now costing us thousands in repair work within the first 30 days of residing in the home. If we could do this all over again, we would have asked for a different agent earlier in the process.
