The Homes for Heroes Foundation surpasses $2M in grants awarded to hero-serving nonprofits, community organizations, and heroes in need across the country. For more than two decades, the mission behind Homes for Heroes remains the same: give back to the heroes who give so much to their communities every single day. Now, that mission has reached a major milestone.
The grant that pushed the Foundation beyond the $2 million mark is the final installment of its Legacy Grant commitment to the National Center for Healthy Veterans, an organization dedicated to helping veterans transition successfully from military service to civilian life through community, healing, and purpose.
At the same time, the Foundation supports the families of fallen officers in Chicago, reinforcing its commitment to standing beside heroes and their families during moments of unimaginable loss.
This milestone represents far more than a dollar amount. It reflects thousands of lives impacted through housing assistance, emergency financial relief, mental health support, veteran services, community rebuilding efforts, and direct hero support programs nationwide.
“The Homes for Heroes Foundation was built on a simple belief: heroes deserve support not only for what they do, but for who they are. Surpassing $2 million in grants reflects the power of an entire community coming together to create lasting impact for heroes nationwide.” – Ruth Johnson, Founder & CEO
Giving Back to Heroes
The Homes for Heroes Foundation extends the impact of the Homes for Heroes program beyond real estate savings and into direct charitable support for heroes facing hardship or serving critical community needs.
Since its founding, the Foundation supports organizations and individuals in the following hero categories:
- Military members and veterans
- Firefighters and EMS personnel
- Law enforcement officers
- Healthcare professionals
- Teachers and educators
- Community heroes and their families
Through grants, partnerships, and emergency assistance, the Foundation funds initiatives ranging from veteran housing and recovery programs to disaster relief, educational support, adaptive equipment, and family assistance.
Every grant reflects the broader mission of the Homes for Heroes program: saying “thank you” to heroes through meaningful action.
“The mission of Homes for Heroes Foundation matters today more than ever because the men and women who serve our communities and nation are facing increasing financial, emotional, and personal challenges. The Foundation provides critical support and resources to Hero non-profits during times of hardship, reminding these heroes that their sacrifices are seen and they are appreciated.” – Jay Flynn, Homes for Heroes Foundation Director
Supporting Veterans Through the National Center for Healthy Veterans

The final Legacy Grant installment to National Center for Healthy Veterans marks a significant chapter in the Foundation’s ongoing veteran support efforts.
The organization provides transitional housing, mentorship, wellness programs, job training, and peer support designed specifically for veterans navigating life after military service. Their work addresses some of the most pressing challenges veterans face today, including isolation, trauma recovery, employment transition, and long-term stability.
The Homes for Heroes Foundation’s Legacy Grant commitment helps strengthen the organization’s ability to continue serving veterans with dignity, purpose, and community connection.
Standing with Families of Fallen Officers in Chicago
While celebrating this milestone, the Foundation also recognizes the importance of showing up during tragedy.
For the Homes for Heroes Foundation, supporting heroes means more than recognizing service — it means standing beside families and communities when they need it most. We recently awarded a grant to Brotherhood for the Fallen, a group dedicated to supporting the families and communities of fallen officers by providing emotional and financial assistance.
This specific grant supports the family of Officer Bartholomew, who was recently tragically killed in the line of duty, and Officer Crespo who was severely injured in the same incident in Chicago. It is intended to provide immediate support and relief to families facing emotional and financial hardship after devastating loss. Our Foundation is committed to helping heroes and their loved ones during times of crisis.

The Homes for Heroes and the Foundation connection to the Circle of Giving.
The success of the Homes for Heroes Foundation is directly tied to the nationwide network of Homes for Heroes real estate specialists, mortgage lenders, local businesses, and hero clients who make giving back possible.
Through the Homes for Heroes program, firefighters, law enforcement officers, military personnel, healthcare workers, teachers, and other eligible heroes receive savings when buying, selling, or refinancing a home with participating affiliates. A portion of that success helps fuel the Foundation’s charitable efforts.
It creates a powerful Circle of Giving:
Heroes save money during important life moments, and those transactions help generate additional support for heroes in need nationwide.
That connection between homeownership and community impact continues to drive both organizations forward.

What’s Next After Surpassing $2 Million Granted to Heroes
The Homes for Heroes Foundation surpassing $2M in grants to support heroes is both a celebration and a reminder that the need for hero support continues to grow.
As communities across the country face challenges ranging from mental health struggles and economic hardship to recovery after tragedy, the Homes for Heroes Foundation remains committed to investing in organizations and initiatives making a real difference.
With continued support from the Homes for Heroes network, affiliates, partners, and hero clients, the Foundation looks forward to expanding its impact and continuing to serve those who serve others.
“Reaching this $2 million milestone is incredibly meaningful because every dollar represents a hero, a family, or a community that needed support during an important moment in their lives. The Homes for Heroes Foundation exists to stand beside those who spend their lives serving others, and we’re deeply grateful to our network, affiliates, and hero clients who make this impact possible every day.” – Ruth Johnson, Founder & CEO
