In June of 1968, I was born while my dad was off fighting in Vietnam. Back then, it was by wired telegraph that he found out I was born to be his first daughter. He didn’t meet me until I was 6 months old. As I grew older, I heard of many stories of near misses of land mines and close calls during combat, but fortunately my father was brought home. However, he brought PTSD with him. Today he has learned to manage it and for the past 7 years he has volunteered to counsel vets who have come home with that same debilitating baggage. When I heard about Homes for Heroes, I immediately felt excited to, also, participate in helping those that serve our country. I feel like honoring those in my community who provide us with daily protection, education, and healthcare is a way I can honor my dad, as well.
