Homes for Heroes® has proven to be a resource for our country’s heroes including firefighters, law enforcement, military, EMS, healthcare workers and the brave men and women that make up our country’s teachers. Today, we are going to focus a bit on how military life can affect credit scores among service members. Many of these struggles and solutions are not limited to military. In fact we see these items in all walks of like. My hope is that you find one nugget of information that will assist you in your future financial endeavors.
When you make the decision to commit to protecting our country, you enroll in the military at a ripe young age, typically directly out of high school. This is an age where you are just learning about life, finances, and relationships. Sometimes these life lessons are learned the hard way and now you are faced with a large amount of credit card debt and a few late payments on your credit report that occurred when you were off training to protect your country. Have you found yourself in this position? You are not alone. In fact, this is rather common. Now you are ready to move up in rank, or maybe you just want to purchase a home but your credit score is holding you back.
Credit scores are not character ratings. These things happen to the most responsible and successful individuals. Sometimes it’s a result of a mistake or maybe the bills crossed in the mail. And although you paid the original creditor, the bill had already been sent to the collection agency and now it is on your credit report. So, who can help in these situations and where should you turn when these items find themselves on your credit report? Sometimes you can fix these things on your own. Making a phone call to the collection agency or maybe the original creditor will get things cleared up. Others have had success with writing letters to the credit bureaus requesting that the account be verified. The issue with these solutions is they do not always work and they take up many precious hours of your day as you typically are pushed into a cat and mouse game between the collection company and the credit bureaus to figure out who will help and how to get the item removed.
Sometimes turning to professionals for help can provide you the best results. As an Attorney based credit repair company, Credit Law Center focuses on assisting consumers with these types of tasks daily. They are also an affiliated business with Homes for Heroes and take great pride in providing savings on credit repair solutions to those that serve our country!
